I’ve been photographing this beautiful mama since she was pregnant with her first baby, and she’s just as gorgeous now as she was back then! In fact, the Patels were one of my first clients when I moved to Arizona almost 7 years ago. When we met, we clicked as though we’d known each other for years, and now, they’ve adopted me into the family and vice versa. The first time I saw Sapna post a photo on social media all dressed up, I drooled over the colors & styles of her traditional wear.
She’s a fashionista, for real. And I fan-girled inside, waiting to plan a session with her wearing one of her fabulous dresses. Over the years, I’ve mentioned it and we both said, “Someday…” Then, she had a beautiful baby girl, who takes after mama and LOVES getting dressed up and opportunity presented itself for an amazing Mommy & Me session. Having little one and mama in matching chaniya choli dresses is icing on the cake! (With glittery shoes! EEK!) They are such beautiful people with a rich heritage that they embrace, creating these images for them was extra special. We went out to Papago Park in Tempe for their session; just before sunset during that amazing time of day for photographers known as the “golden hour”. I brought along my light stand and umbrella to give a little extra dimension to the natural light. We played, danced and giggled our way through to sunset. With only a little help from the candy in my pocket and the cookie waiting for after photos, little sister gave some of the most beautiful natural expressions & memories with mama that I hope this family will treasure forever.
And, of course, since the light was so pretty AND they are fashionistas, they changed outfits and took a few more photos (including ones with brother & dad… but those are staying secret for holiday cards).
